Welcome & Opening Remarks

Session I – Precision Treatment Strategies in Lung Cancer
Guest Speaker: Laercio DaSilva, MD

  • Updates in early stage lung cancer with ICPI and  Targeted Therapy
  •  Integrating DLL3-Targeted Therapy in Small Cell Lung Cancer Treatment Paradigms

Laercio DaSilva, MD, is a thoracic medical oncologist and assistant professor at Emory University’s Winship Cancer Institute. His work primarily focuses on the clinical and translational development of novel immunotherapies for thoracic tumors. Dr. DaSilva completed his medical oncology training at the National Cancer Institute, where he served as Chief Fellow. He holds a medical degree from the Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da Santa Casa de São Paulo and completed his internal medicine residency at MetroWest Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine.

9:15 – 10:15 AM

Session II – Precision Medicine and Biomarker-Driven Care in Gastrointestinal Oncology
Guest Speaker: Karen Riggins, MD, PhD

  • HER2 Directed Therapy in Upper GI Cancers: Integrating HER2 positive treatment in gastro-esophageal adenocarcinoma
  • The KRAS Revolution in Pancreatic Cancer: Integrating KRAS-Directed therapy in Pancreatic cancer

Karen Riggins, MD, PhD is a gastrointestinal (GI) oncologist and physician-scientist whose research program is dedicated to elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying early-onset GI cancers, with a particular focus on health equity in underrepresented populations. Her translational research integrates epigenomic and microbiome analyses to investigate the pathogenesis of early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC, defined as CRC diagnosed before age 50), a disease whose rising incidence disproportionately affects racial and ethnic minorities. Under the mentorship of Dr. Lanlan Shen, Dr. Riggins has leveraged a unique cohort of predominantly minority EOCRC patients within the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM)/Harris Health System to conduct the first comprehensive characterization of the EOCRC methylome at single-base resolution using whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS). Their analyses revealed distinct epigenetic features of EOCRC—including global hypomethylation, promoter-specific hypermethylation, and dysregulation of the TGF-β signaling pathway—that were not previously captured in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). These findings nominate novel biomarkers and mechanistic targets for EOCRC in populations historically underrepresented in genomic studies. In parallel with her translational program, Dr. Riggins serves as Principal Investigator for several clinical trials in the management of advanced colorectal and gastroesophageal cancers, ensuring that her research questions remain grounded in the clinical needs of the patients she serves.

Session III – Practice-Changing Advances in Genitourinary Oncology

  • Perioperative Management of Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer in 2026

Dr. Basu, M.B.B.S., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., is a medical oncologist specializing in the care of genitourinary cancers, with a special interest in renal cell carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma. He also has an interest in biomarkers for improving treatment decision making. Dr. Basu has previously served as the Section Chief for Genitourinary Oncology and the chair of the Genitourinary working group at the University of Alabama Oneal Comprehensive Cancer Center in Birmingham.
